First time: Anet A6

Around 2016 I was playing with some 3D printer at my friend’s company office.
But no one there knew how to run it and I felt weird sitting at their place.

So started checking the market and found Anet A6 printer. Reviews were mixed.
I got the impression that once you build the printer you need to print half of
it again and repeat until it gets acceptable quality. I decided to skip it.

Some months later, at some local event, I saw Anet A6/A8 printers. Ouch, they
were terrible!

Second moment: Ender 3

A few years passed, Creality launched Ender 3 line of 3D printers. Reviews were
quite positive, printers looked more like a product than DIY hobby.

And then I got a message from brother-in-law that he bought one. So I did not
have to.

Over the years, I printed countless items with his help.

Third case

A few months ago I started thinking about buying a 3D printer to have one at
home, eliminating the need to go ~30km each way to collect prints.

Checked the market options and started watching reviews. Some models started to
appear on a list of considered ones:

Anycubic Kobra S1

Bambu Lab P1S

Creality K2

Elegoo Centauri Carbon

Crossing out models

The more reviews I watched/read, the more I started to cross out.

Bambu Lab P1S

Bambu Lab P1S went out due to lack of communication between OrcaSlicer running
on AArch64 desktop system — their networking plugin is a closed binary
available only for x86-64 architecture.

Also there was a lot of noise about license violations.

And sorry, but Bambu Lab users give off a vibe similar to the Apple users. You
know, “there is only one god” kind.

Elegoo Centauri Carbon 1/2

Carbon 1 has enclosure but, at the time I looked, it lacked any multimaterial
solution. Instead they produced Centauri Carbon 2 (CC2) printer. Which looks weird.

The Carbon 2 requires its own slicer as it looks like more and more things done
by other printers are being moved to slicing software. Anyone remember the HP
710c “winprinter”?

Creality K2

This printer did not vanish from the list — I decided to buy Anycubic Kobra S1.

First day

It took almost two weeks from order to delivery but yesterday I got Anycubic
Kobra S1 Combo at home. I unpacked it, set it up, and played a bit with printing
some basic stuff.

Rinkhals

I would not be myself without modifying the software of a device I just bought.
And a 3D printer is no different.

So I took USB thumbdrive and installed Rinkhals
to gain more control over my new device.

I do not care much about what exactly this project installs on my printer. Do
not have to know what Klipper, Mainsail or Moonraker are. What matters to me is
the ability to print directly from the OrcaSlicer running on my AArch64 desktop.

What to print?

My list of things to print has about twenty entries. Ranging from some small
home improvements or replacing missing/broken pieces, to cases for my DIY
keyboards and devices.

In the beginning, it gives instant gratification. I printed a piece in 3 minutes
and one thing at home works better. Another piece, and my Lenovo thin terminal
no longer moves because it is secured in three places.

Trivia

As one of things I got was ability to log in via SSH I had to check what
hardware is used:

root@kobra-ks1-02ab:/root# cat /proc/cpuinfo
processor : 0

Yes, this is single Cortex-A7 core. Rockchip RV1106G SoC.

I was hoping to never see 32-bit Arm hardware again…

Books I read in 2025

Reading is fun. All those new worlds/stories…

I enjoy reading and I am known for being a fast reader. In 2025, I read one
hundred books…

So what kind of books did I read? Mostly science-fiction, but also some
biographies, thrillers and a few random ones.

Space operas

As in previous years, I continued reading the “Undying Mercenaries” series by
B.V. Larson. It is an easy to read series — I can read a book in the evening
and forget what was there during sleep.

There was “The Murderbot Diaries”
by Martha Wells. Mostly because there was an announcement of a TV series (which
(surprise, surprise) turned out to be worse than the books). I read the first
five books in Polish and the last two in English, as they had not been published
yet. If you plan to read them, I recommend the “1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 5, 7” order as
“System Collapse” (7th book) starts at the end of “Network Effect” (5th one),
while “Fugitive Telemetry” is more a single story happening before “Network
Effect” one.

I started reading “Expeditionary Force”
by Craig Alanson. It was an interesting space opera, but became boring at some
point so I ended on “Aftermath” (the 17th book). How long you can keep up with a
series where humans keep playing with other galactic civilisations, all thanks
to the help of an ancient AI?

After many years, I collected all parts of “Sector General”
by James White. All twelve books. It was fun to read but it feels old.
And recently Russ Allbery mentioned
“Machine” and “Ancestral Night” by Elisabeth Bear as a modern series with
similar vibe.

When it comes to old authors, I also read “To the Stars” series by Harry Harrison.

The other series was “Shadow Raptors” by Sławomir Nieściur. Common theme:
humans fighting some other species. In space.

Military fiction

Another space series was “Stark’s War”
by John G. Hemry (as Jack Campbell). A war on the Moon over the control of resources.

There were two series by Vladimir Wolff: “Nowy porządek świata” (“A new world
order”) and “Armaggedon”. It is hard to tell how they differ cause they share
some ideas. The world as we know it ends, old forces vanish, and new ones
appear. It is fun to read about a “near future” where Poland becomes a new
global force, while the United States vanishes due to a virus killing nearly
entire population.

The “All You Need Is Kill”
by Hiroshi Sakurazaka shows how much story can be changed before film adaptation
is created (the “Edge of Tomorrow” was based on this book). Highly recommend.

Other fiction

There were books by Andrzej Kwiecień — “Metamorf” and “Dori”. Some kind of
cyberpunk stories in a world where androids can take human’s form and
personality. Light read.

“Kaori” by Marta Sobiecka was a cyberpunk crime story. Reading reviews does not
remind me a book, which shows that it was mediocre one.

Other cyberpunk was set of stories called “Cyberpunk Girls”. Some were good,
some were not.

Another collection was the “Frostpunk, Antologia” — a set of four stories in
the steampunk world of the Frostpunk game (which I have never played).

And while we are around alternative world of XXI century I have to mention
“Ciepło-zimno” by Joanna Mazur. Deeper in climate change, with nine months long
summer, no electricity during some parts of a day, main character is a freelance
worker, happy to have some work at all.

There was “Czarownica znad Kałuży” postapo story by Artur Olchowy. Small village
in a middle of nowhere, with “a witch” living just outside of it. And one day a
priest arrives and tries to change the way those people live. It was an
interesting read, despite common oversimplifications (as usual in postapo stories).

Then was Blake Crouch with his “Dark matter”
and “Recursion” books.
Both are about travelling to the other versions of the world. In “Dark matter”
those are parallel universes, where the main character can meet the other
selves. “Recursion” loops the live of the main character to his younger self.
Both were a good read.

“Good Omens” by Terry Pratchett and
Neil Gaiman was a must after watching TV series.

“Senni zwycięzcy” by Marek Oramus about multi-generation spaceship flying
towards the Earth. Society there is in terrible state and there are mysterious
people with paranormal abilities trying to change things. And it turns out to be
transmitted as some sick reality TV. Good book from 1970s.

And “Triplet” by Timothy Zahn. Fantasy book in space.

Literary Role-Playing Game (LitRPG)

Some time ago, someone suggested me to check books by Василий Маханенко (Vasily
Mahanenko in one transcription, Wasilij Machanienko in the other). His “Way of
Shaman” series was an interesting one. Kind of reading how someone plays the
game instead of watching it on Twitch or Youtube.

History

Between science fiction books I smuggled some history ones. Mostly around the
Second World War.

There was “Wojna oczami wroga, sojusznicy Hitlera” by Grzegorz Bobrek. A book
showing WW2 from a view of German allies: Italy, Hungary, Romania or Japan. And
Germany itself. Was boring at some points but if someone wants to see the other
view, I recommend this book.

Friedrich Sander’s book titled “Blood, Dust and Snow: Diaries of a Panzer
Commander in Germany and on the Eastern Front, 1938-1943” was another one
showing WW2 from the German side.

The “Operation Paperclip” by Annie Jacobsen is about secret US project of
gathering as much of German research and scientists as possible during the end
of WW2. If you were deemed valuable enough, you were moved to the USA with a new
identity as long as you were ready to work for “your new country”.

The “Ludzie na mydło” (“Humans for soap”) by Tomasz Bonek is about German
anatomists turning human corpses into school material. And that soap made from
human fat was more of a side effect of that work rather than primary purpose.

There was also something not about WW2:
“The Hot Zone” by Richard Preston.
Worth reading book about the Ebola virus.

The end of the world

There were some books which can be described as “the end of the world we know”.

“The End of Men” by Christina Sweeney-Baird shows the world where 90% of men
died due to unknown disease. When vaccination arrives, international travel is
allowed only between countries with 99.9% of population being vaccinated. And
that book was written before COVID-19 pandemic. Very interesting position to read.

The “Blackout: Tomorrow Will Be Too Late”
by Mark Elsberg was another book in this category. Imagine Europe without
electricity. Which means no water, no fuel, no food, no hospitals, no
communication etc.. All because of a cyberattack.

Biographies

I read some biographies during 2025.

There was “The Outsider: My Life in Intrigue” by Frederick Forsyth. From the
youngest pilot in RAF, to journalist, almost a spy and the author. Quick read,
despite 368 pages.

And then were books about Jan Himilsbach (“Ja to chętnie napiłbym się kawy”) and
Zdzisław Maklakiewicz (“Zaczęło się od tego, że jestem brzydki…”). Both by
Ryszard Abraham. Add “Rejs na krzywy ryj” by Anna Poppek and you have three
interesting books about famous Polish duo and the film which started their
common career. I was also reading stories written by Jan Himilsbach but did not
finished it in 2025 so it was not counted.

The book by Chrysta Bilton “A Normal Family: The Surprising Truth About My Crazy
Childhood (And How I Discovered 35 New Siblings)” was a fun read. Author
described her crazy childhood and later finding out that author’s father was a
sperm donor. Which ended with her “expanded family” of 35 brothers and sisters…

Another book from this category was “American Sniper” by Chris Kyle, Scott
McEwen and Jim DeFelice.

Journalism

A few books here. Starting with “ZATO” by Alice Lugen — a book about closed
cities in Soviet Union (and later Russia). Very good read, describing how Soviet
maps were falsified to hide those cities even from neighbours, how life there
was different etc.

“Głusza” by Anna Goc described world of deaf people. Their language, culture and
problems. How world of “those who hear” tries to force them “to fit”. Highly recommend.

Edyta Żemła in “Armia w ruinie” described how Polish Armed Forces changed during
last years. To worse.

“Miła robótka” by Ewa Stusińska describes how everything around sex and porn
arrived in Poland during 1990s. From VHS films to sex toys. How people started
explore new areas of sexual freedom.

“Breasts” by Corien van Zweden is a wonderful book about breasts. Their role,
how they change during life and what breast cancer can mean. Highly recommend.
Even if you lack them yourself.

And the last entry: “Pogo” by Jakub Sieczko describes life of an ambulance workers.

Summary

It might look that I had a lot of free time in 2025, because reading all those
books takes time.

I mostly read in the evening. Lying in bed, with my Onyx Nova2 e-book reader.
Sometimes during day (there was lot of reading during time when I had a problem
with my arm).

In those one hundred books, I read a few of them in English. Rest was in Polish
(I had to look out for English titles for most of this post).

I also noticed some recent blog
posts and emails about it.

So let me explain how I use AI on this blog.

Grammar stuff

If you look through this blog’s archives you may see how terrible
my English grammar used to be (not that it is particularly good nowadays). Back
in 2010 I started attending English lessons to improve both my grammar and
vocabulary. And it paid off.

Still, my writing style can be described as ‘Hrw English’. I try to keep it
British English rather than American (I learnt the British version throughout my
formal education). My vocabulary includes words from American, Australian and
other variants.

Let me ask ChatGPT

My previous post about my arm problem
went through ChatGPT:

Take text below, fix grammar to British English and show changes side-by-side

So let take some examples from the result:

Original

ChatGPT

Some time ago my right arm started to hurt. In the beginning it was a bit annoying but then got serious. So I went to orthopaedist.

Some time ago, my right arm started to hurt. At first, it was a bit annoying, but then it became serious. So, I went to an orthopaedist.

MRI was the other thing. My daughter told me already that I need to be prepared for loud annoying noise. What I was not prepared was some shitty pop played over some shitty headphones. zOMG…

The MRI was a different matter. My daughter had already told me to expect loud, annoying noise. What I wasn’t prepared for was some dreadful pop music played over equally dreadful headphones. zOMG…

I know that those headphones have to be as plastic as possible to survive inside of MRI machine but next time I will ask for not playing anything.

I know the headphones have to be made entirely of plastic to survive inside the MRI machine, but next time I’ll ask them not to play anything.

BTW: Can anyone recommend some good Linux application for watching DICOM images (other than AlizaMS)?

By the way, can anyone recommend a good Linux application for viewing DICOM images (other than AlizaMS)?

Most of cases are related to professional sport people. A group where I do not belong.

Most cases are related to professional athletes—a group to which I definitely do not belong.

I promised my daughter some trips during summer vacations. One set of attractions will slip for 3rd time.

I promised my daughter some trips during the summer holidays. One set of attractions will be postponed for the third time.

Review of suggestions

So what do we have here? Some vocabulary changes like “professional sport people”
-> “professional athletes”, the usual missing “a/an/the”, more commas, work
order changes etc.

I review the suggestions and choose some of them: vocabulary tweaks, missing
articles and some word order changes. Most of the time I ignore punctuation
related ones as I always had problems with commas — never mind which language I
was writing in.

I am leaving several errors as they were — I wrote that text so let it show my
mistakes instead of hiding them. And I prefer to use ‘some’ rather than ‘few/a
few’ as I always forget when to use which ;D

Style variations

After some updates I got question:

Let me know if you’d like it shortened, rephrased in a more humorous or
technical tone, or formatted for a specific blog engine like Hugo, Ghost, or WordPress.

Fun starts with mixing all of them:

updated text below. give me British English version, differences side-by-side
and then more technical tone version and more causal one plus more humorous
one. render markdown

Look how one sentence can change:

So, let me explain how I use AI on this blog.

In this post, I’ll outline how I integrate AI into the workflow of this blog.

So, here’s a quick explanation of how I use AI on this blog.

Yes, I use AI. But not for evil. Mostly.

Those are original, technical, causal, humorous versions.

I have to admit that the ‘more technical tone’ version was a bit too much for
me. It looked completely different from my writing style. Anyway I read it twice
and took some wording from it. The ‘more causal’ version looks what I could
write but still not quite my style. And the humorous version is pure fun to read
but nothing to copy from it.

Conclusion

Will I continue to use of AI on this blog? Probably yes. It gives me good
suggestions and fixes some of my language/grammar mistakes. And I do not have to
apply all the changes so text keeps my style.

Is it a way for other people? No idea but I recommend giving it a try and seeing
it for yourself. The results can be interesting.

I have a problem with arm

I had several problems with Arm. Now have problem with arm.

Some of my readers may say that I’ve always had a problem with Arm. The company,
the architecture, the ecosystem etc.

But today I have some other problem. With arm.

Beginning

Some time ago my right arm started to hurt. At first, it was a bit annoying but
then got serious. So I went to an orthopaedist.

Orthopaedist

“Please stand up, please stand up” and then started moving my arms in various
ways. We wrestled a bit, I did that “fasten your bra” move and the diagnosis
was clear: I had a problem with my arm.

I received some sick leave and a list of imaging tests to do.

Imaging

I went through the standard imaging flow:

RTG (X-ray)

USG (Ultrasound)

MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging)

I visited a few places and received some optical media with images (and
some in physical form).

The RTG and USG were simple. I have done them many times before.

The MRI was another matter. My daughter had already told me to be prepared for
loud, annoying noise. What I was not prepared for was some awful pop music
played through dreadful headphones. zOMG… I know that those headphones have to
be as plastic as possible to survive inside the MRI machine but next time I will
ask them to not play anything.

BTW: Can anyone recommend a good Linux application for watching DICOM images
(other than AlizaMS)?

Second visit to orthopaedist

“Looks like you have SLAP (Superior Labrum Anterior Posterior).” Yay…

Most cases are related to professional athletes — a group to which I definitely
do not belong.

I think I need to rethink my <del>life</del> desk setup.

But first have to sort out stuff and how my summer time will look like.
Rehabilitation, exercises, handling things with only one arm (not my dominant one).

So if you would like me to do something for you before September then consider
postponing as I may not be ready for it.

Summer holidays

I promised my daughter some trips during summer break. One set of attractions
will be postponed for 3rd time. We have some conventions to attend and they
should be safe.

The trip to visit my mother will be more difficult. No way to drive a car means
that I will have to rely on public transport. In area where it sucks. Should be
fun (for some sick definition of “fun”).

Twenty years of OpenEmbedded membership

Some memberships matter.
And there are memberships I remember never mind if I use them on not anymore.

One of them is OpenEmbedded.

History

I started using OpenEmbedded around February/March of 2004. Will not cover
history here as I wrote several posts closer to those years:

Year with OpenEmbedded in 2005

30 months of OpenEmbedded and me in 2006

3 years of OpenEmbedded and me in 2007

5 years with OpenEmbedded in 2009

10 years ago I got write access to OpenEmbedded in 2014

I learnt a lot, helped people and companies, got paid by both people and
companies, mentored new users and developers.

And got some friends in the OpenEmbedded community.

Membership

In 2007 we were discussing about creating official organization. During FOSDEM
2008 a group of developers met and it happened.

First it was OpenEmbedded e.V. based on Germany law, years later it became one
of Software in the Public Interest (SPI) projects.

Developers joined, became members, attended meetings to vote etc..

During years, due to member being spread all over the globe, we moved from
in-person meetings (with potential proxies) to online voting system.

And in last week I got an email with voting invitation. Of course, I knew that
it will come — we have openembedded-members mailing list for a reason ;D

Sentimental value

For me, my OpenEmbedded membership has highest value when it comes to my
memberships. Sure, mostly for sentimental values but when I am at FOSDEM, I
always visit OpenEmbedded stand, usually attend some OE related talk in the
Embedded devroom etc.. Similar at other events.

And my e-mail address in the openembedded.org domain still works. I do not use
it but it has value to me.

Another Apple product at home

I have new Arm development system at home

Three years ago I wrote blog post about naming company laptops.
Last week I got new one. So new name was needed.

Quest for Arm laptop

Many things changed during last years. Qualcomm released Snapdragon SoC line for
laptops. All were running Microsoft Windows (for Arm) with bastard version of
ACPI tables. Took some time for Linux community to get Linux running on those
systems. In Device Tree mode as ACPI tables were so bad that it was easier to
ignore them.

Apple released laptops and mini desktops with M1 SoC (in many variants) and then
M2 (also with variants). With MacOS on them. Again, Linux community started
working on getting Linux running there. Device Tree again.

Kapturek -> Gossamer -> Blossom -> ?

When I got Applied Micro Mustang I
called it “pinkiepie” as my daughter was at “My Little Pony” phase then.

This time I have chosen Apple Macbook 14” (2021) with M1 Pro as my work laptop.
So it got ‘applejack’ as hostname after other character from MLP franchise.

Applejack from My Little Pony

MacOS?

When I told my friends that my next work laptop will be Macbook their reactions
were funny:

“why this way” in 3, 2, 1…

You and Macbook???

And then they followed with set of Linux->MacOS hints. Like “install brew at
start”, information where to switch off “natural” scrolling, remapping
Fn/Control/Option/Command keys to be more PC105 like etc.

I spent less than hour under MacOS - logged in, enabled encryption, installed
brew, changed keyboard layout and started installer of Asahi Fedora Remix :D

Asahi Fedora Remix

Laptop boots to U-Boot. Then Grub is loaded and then it was Fedora Linux 37
system with custom kernel and some modifications. So far there is no installer
support — mostly due to Apple partitioning and how boot selection is done.

I will not go with what works and what does not as it is work in progress all
the time. Asahi Linux project has “Feature Support”
wiki page for it.

Spent some time on customizing system to have encrypted /home partition, boot
progress instead of kernel output etc. Then copied some settings and data.

But why Apple Macbook???

That was quite popular question during last weeks. I heard it from several
friends who know that I run only FOSS operating systems on my machines.

There are several reasons:

it is one of most advanced AArch64 SoC when it comes to cpu features

it is fast so I can use it for Arm development

How fast it is?

I did not run any complex benchmarks — there are better skilled people for it.
And there are several web pages with it already.

Tested kcbench. It built Linux kernel 5.15 several times:

Honeycomb (LX2160, 16 Cortex-A72 cores):

Run 1 (-j 16): 290.32 seconds / 12.40 kernels/hour [P:1393%, 879 maj. pagefaults]
Run 3 (-j 19): 290.83 seconds / 12.38 kernels/hour [P:1399%, 846 maj. pagefaults]

Macbook (M1 Pro, 10 cores):

Run 1 (-j 10): 115.77 seconds / 31.10 kernels/hour [P:882%, 536 maj. pagefaults]
Run 3 (-j 13): 115.18 seconds / 31.26 kernels/hour [P:896%, 245 maj. pagefaults]

my desktop (Ryzen 5 3600, 6/12 cores/threads):

Run 3 (-j 15): 217.94 seconds / 16.52 kernels/hour [P:1094%, 231 maj. pagefaults]

Even if I say that my desktop had several other tasks running at same time it
does not matter. M1 Pro is fast.

Next three years are covered

For my next three years I have Arm development system which is mobile. Last time
it was 10 years ago with Samsung Chromebook.
Just some numbers changed — 5 times more cores, 16 times more memory and storage
is counted in GBs instead of MBs.

Why “Another Apple”?

During last two decades I owned some Apple products:

iPhone 5S (bought and gave to my mom as upgrade to 4S)

iPhone 7 (bought in USA, sold to friend in Poland)

PowerMac G4 (bought on some Friday, gave as gift on Sunday)

And last time I used MacOS on own hardware was in previous millenium with MacOS
7.5.3/7.5.5/8.1 on my Amiga (using Shapeshifter and/or Fusion emulators).

I am tired of online conferences

a conference which should have been a YouTube playlist…

About two and half year passed since start of COVID-19 pandemic. A time when
most of conferences got cancelled or went online (with different level of success).

A conference which should have been a YouTube playlist

There is saying “a meeting which should have been an email”. For meetings which
were complete waste of time for most of attendees. During pandemic several
events were “a conference which should have been a YouTube playlist”. Never mind
did talks were interesting or not.

Far too often there was no way to chat with speakers or other “attendees”. Or
there was one chat channel per whole conference or track. Also without threading
(just one long list of messages) and no way to mention names.

Life kicks in

Some time ago one online conference took place. Three days of talks about things
which interest me. I had plans to attend several of them. Then life happened —
video calls and local stuff. Also several hours of time difference was a problem.

Good part is that organizers recorded all talks so I can watch them later. I
“just” missed a way to get part in chat and Q&A session at the end.

Started to ignore

I started to ignore most of invites to such events. Sooner or later videos from
them land online so I pick those which interest me.

Sitting in front of a screen and watching people talking is boring. Especially
after over two years of doing it because there was no other way.

My E-book readers

Over ten years of e-book reading. Several devices from different vendors.

During last days I had discussions about devices to read electronic books. You
know: e-book readers like Amazon Kindle, Pocketbook. I am unable to count how
many of them I bought and which models. But I know which I used.

Very old times

Long, long time ago I had Palm M105 and then Sony Clie SJ30 palmtops. Used both
to read some electronic books. But small screen made it not comfortable.

First try

In 2011 I wanted to check how it feels to read e-books on proper e-ink device.
Borrowed Amazon Kindle Keyboard from one of my friends and it was good.

Month later I was in USA on Linaro Developer Summit and bought myself Kindle
Keyboard. And got Kindle ‘no touch’ one too. First one went on shelf quickly as
I used smaller one more often. Still have it — in storage now as battery finally
gave up.

Amount of books I bought and read in electronic form quickly passed amount of
paper ones.

Upgrading Kindle

Amazon released e-ink device with touchscreen: Kindle Touch. So I bought it on
next US visit (another Linaro conference). This time I also got few devices for
my friends (no customs == profit) and sold my ‘no touch’ one.

Then Kindle Paperwhite on next visit. Screen backlight was huge step. Reading
books in buses, planes, trains became comfortable.

I had one or two newer Kindle Paperwhite devices but for short time.

E-Book subscription

In 2015 I gave Kindle Paperwhite to my mother with some books on it. She enjoyed
using device but there was a problem with selection of content…

At around same time Legimi started their e-book subscription service. So I
bought Inkbook Obsidian from them and gave my mother as Xmas gift. After some
training she became a fan of both service and e-books.

Goodbye Kindle, welcome Pocketbook

At some moment Legimi started tests of ‘one account, two readers’ offer. I
decided that it is good time to change device. Sold my Kindle Paperwhite and
bought Pocketbook Touch Lux 3 instead.

New device allowed me to use subscription on two e-book readers == less money
spent on buying books.

Few months later I had to buy another device as my daughter took Pocketbook from
me and started using it. So I bought Pocketbook Touch HD for myself. And another
Legimi subscription ;D

This was also first e-book reader where I started experimenting with software.
Coolreader is nice alternative to original reading application. My favourite
option was “ignore publisher formatting” so each e-book looked the same. Of
course if it was properly done which was not granted.

Let go Android with Onyx

Time passed, I cancelled my Legimi subscription in meantime. And PB Touch Lux 3
one day decided to not refresh screen. Like at all. Dead.

So Mira got Pocketbook Touch HD and I started looking for something new for myself.

Asked friends, did some research, watched countless review videos. And decided
on Onyx Boox Poke 3. Still 6” 300dpi screen but with all fancy backlight things
and Android 10.

Did not even got used to it and replaced it with Onyx Boox Nova 2 from one of
friends. 7.8” screen made a difference especially with pre-formatted PDF files.

FBreader works great on it and allows to use OPDS catalogs directly from device.
And amount of configuration options beats everything I used before.

I miss one thing (compared to Kindle or Pocketbook) — there is no way to send
e-books via e-mail straight to the device.

Summary

During those ten years of using e-book readers I have read countless amount of
books. On trip to San Diego I have read above thousand pages on plane (one s-f
book series was hard to put away).

Bought hundreds of books in electronic form. And just a few paper ones just
because they lacked any other form. I also feel unable to concentrate while
reading paper ones — have to hold them in a way to not close etc…
